As the world celebrated World Water Day on Friday, Rev. Fr. Barr. Victor Nyoroh, the Africa Director for The Vincent International Network for Justice, Peace, and Integrity Creation (VIN-JPIC), highlighted the critical role of water in fostering peace within communities and across the nation.

World Water Day is an annual event focused on appreciating water, raising awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water, and addressing the global water crisis. It aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal 6, aiming for universal access to water and sanitation by 2030.

During a visit to the Galadimawa community under the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Rev. Fr. Nyoroh, alongside partners, discussed how water is pivotal in preventing natural disasters, improving education and living standards, creating jobs, driving economic growth, and sustaining ecosystems. Through these benefits, water emerges as a foundational element for peace and prosperity.
The Chief of Galadimawa, Tanko Zhimiko, appreciated the visit but expressed concerns over the community's water scarcity. Despite attempts to connect to the Lower Usuma Dam, the community struggles, relying heavily on private boreholes and costly water vendors.

He appealed for intervention from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, and other authorities.
The District Head of Galadimawa, retired Police Officer Musa Barde, found the visit timely, offering residents a platform to seek improved living conditions through access to clean, potable water. He also pledged the community's support in combating crime.

The event was marked by the distribution of free clean water to the community's residents, with participation from partners like Drum Majors for Peace, led by Amb. Nsikan Paul, PIB Global Services Ltd, International Food Heroes Agency (IFHA), and ONOME FOOD MARKET, emphasizing the collective effort towards addressing water issues and fostering community well-being.
